President Dr. William Ruto today officially handed over the newly1,080 completed housing units in Mukuru slums, Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in the Kenya Kwanza government Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).
A flagship initiative under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) that he had promised Kenyans during his 2021 campaigns prior to becoming the president.
The ceremony to hand over the house units indicated a major initiative in the Kenya Kwanza administration that is committed to offering respectable and affordable housing to Kenyans, particularly in the slums settlement areas.

The Affordable Housing Programme was not designed to only address the country’s housing deficit but also to ignite economic development by creating jobs to the youths, support local construction industries, and promote inclusive growth without leaving behind people from the slums.
While presiding over the handover ceremony, President Ruto restated his government’s commitment to sustainable urban development, stressing that additional affordable housing projects were ongoing countrywide.
“These efforts aim to expand access to homeownership and uplift communities through improved living conditions and economic empowerment,”. Ruto said
On the same the president emphasised that the Mukuru housing project and others ongoing projects underscored the transformative potential of the BETA agenda, demonstrating how strategic public investment could drive both social and economic change to uplift people’s livelihood.
