Peter Kaluma Calls Out Matiang’i Over Secretive Return to Kenya and Past Misdeeds

April 18, 2025

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has stirred conversation online following a bold statement he shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account. In his post, Kaluma criticized former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for what he described as a secretive return in to the country, allegedly carried out under the cover of night.

According to Kaluma, Matiang’i’s discreet arrival was prompted by the realization that the grand reception reportedly promised by allies Jeremiah Kioni of Jubilee and Richard Onyonka had failed to materialize.

“Mr. Fred Matiang’i decided to sneak into the country in the night upon realizing the Matiba-type rousing welcome Jeremiah Kioni and Richard Onyonka had promised was not forthcoming,” Kaluma stated.

The MP didn’t stop there. He went on to call for accountability, urging law enforcement agencies to ensure Matiang’i answers for alleged abuses committed during his tenure in government be he travels back to the United States.

Kaluma accused the former CS of being complicit in a range of issues—including extra-judicial killings, forced disappearances, tribalism, corruption, and land grabbing—all of which, he claimed, were orchestrated under the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Matiang’i should not leave the country before he answers for all the sins he committed under his puppeteer Uhuru Kenyatta,” Kaluma added.

He concluded by tagging key state agencies—namely the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP)—urging them to take immediate action.

The statement has sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters praising Kaluma’s stance on accountability, while critics view the remarks as politically motivated since he is currently supporting the current President Ruto’s administration who is also getting some support from opposition leader, former prime minister, Raila Odinga.
