Impeached Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive allegations against top government officials, claiming that Juja MP George Koimburi was abducted, tortured, and left for dead in what he described as a politically motivated attack.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Koimburi at Karen Hospital, Gachagua condemned what he termed as the “state-sponsored brutality” meted out on the legislator. He asserted that Koimburi was targeted due to his vocal opposition to President William Ruto’s administration.

“George Koimburi was abducted in broad daylight by a squad allegedly reporting directly to top officials in the Interior Ministry,” Gachagua claimed. “This was not an ordinary arrest, it was a brutal, coordinated effort to silence a dissenting voice.”
According to the former Deputy President, Koimburi was first pursued by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Friday after attending a public event in Kachoro. The MP allegedly evaded capture with the help of constituents, but his vehicle was seized and his driver detained.
Gachagua claimed that the situation escalated on Sunday when two undercover agents abducted Koimburi just after a church service, in full glare of congregants where wife was also nearly harmed during the operation, coinciding with a story done by Tuko. On Sunday.

Following an intensive search, the standard news paper reported that he was found early Monday morning in a coffee plantation in Kipichoi, Githunguri Constituency, in critical condition. He had sustained multiple injuries and was unable to speak.
“Doctors have confirmed he was tortured by professionals. He has soft tissue injuries and has lost his voice due to chemical exposure. This is not routine police work, this is political persecution,” Gachagua highlighted.
Koimburi was first taken to a local facility before being transferred to Karen Hospital, where he remains under intensive care. Medical personnel are conducting toxicology tests to determine the nature of the chemical exposure.
Gachagua linked the attack directly to President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen, and Deputy Inspector General of police Eliud Langat. He alleged the existence of a covert police unit made up of 20 officers from the Nandi sub-community, had been tasked with targeting opposition leaders.
“These officers were also deployed in Kakamega to target Senators John Methu and Karungo wa Thang’wa,” he said. “We have credible intelligence that this is part of a wider plan to suppress opposition voices.”
Gachagua warned of a growing dictatorship under President Ruto, comparing his regime to those of notorious African strongmen Idi Amin Dada and Mobutu Sese Sekou.
“This regime is not just silencing leaders, it’s just silencing the people of Kenya. This rebellion is not from Mt. Kenya alone, it’s nationwide,” Gachagua emphasized. “Even members of the Kalenjin community are fed up with economic mismanagement and tribal politics.”
He called on the international community to intervene before the country descends further into political repression.
“We must not wait until elected leaders are assassinated. The abduction and torture of George Koimburi must be the last,” he said. “If anything happens to any of us, President Ruto will be held accountable.”
Gachagua further alleged that opposition MPs have had their security withdrawn to make them more vulnerable to abductions.
“This is a regime that is afraid of criticism. But let it be known that leaders may be silenced, but the Kenyan people will not be. This one-term presidency is a result of bad governance and it cannot be reversed by violence.” he stressed
In a passionate conclusion, Gachagua urged Kenyans to remain resilient and resist intimidation.
“Koimburi is a hero of our democratic struggle. His pain and suffering are not in vain. Let us stand firm. Kenya belongs to all of us and not to a regime of fear.”
As of now, neither President Ruto nor Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has responded to the allegations.
